'Aktion 100' Additional Apprenticeship Places

Electronics Technician for Devices and Systems

The fact that you can complete an apprenticeship with an outstanding degree is already a special achievement. If you also complete it despite particular hurdles, that is all the more remarkable. Marcel Lange has done it. He passed his final examination to become an electronics technician for devices and systems at the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK, Germany) with a straight “1” (A). Thanks to ‘Aktion 100’ and the support of GTE as a training company, his career start was a success. A result from which everyone involved can benefit today.

'Aktion 100' - For Equal Opportunities

‘Aktion 100’ is a funding program of the German Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Affairs (MAGS) of the State of NRW together with the EU. The project supports young people with disabilities. The apprentices and training companies receive intensive advice and support. The apprentice and the participating rehabilitation facility conclude the training contract. The training company is a cooperating company.

The Education Provider as Coach and Pilot

Marcel found support from the local employment agency and the Berufsförderungswerk Oberhausen (vocational training center) as the responsible sponsor. Marcel had already started an apprenticeship once, but was unable to complete it. As it turned out, depression was the decisive factor. After a preliminary process lasting several weeks, the employment agency and the Berufsförderungswerk Oberhausen decided to accept Marcel Lange into the support program. He decided to complete an apprenticeship as an electronics technician for devices and systems and received intensive coaching from the Berufsförderungswerk during the application process.

GTE as a Cooperation Company

Thanks to ‘Aktion 100’, it became apparent that GTE Industrieelektronik GmbH was a suitable training facility for Marcel. Of course, GTE also held a job interview with trial work.

The program was presented to the company in detail and everyone at GTE agreed: People with disabilities deserve the same opportunities as everyone else. Of course, as a company we have to act economically. But that can be combined well with social commitment.

Encouraged and Challenged During the Training

In the company, Production Manager Carsten Bender was responsible for the apprenticeship. He challenged and encouraged, motivated and offered encouragement. In this way, Marcel gained more and more technical knowledge and skills. Before the exams, he was able to take advantage of individual support and remedial instruction from the vocational training center. This also boosted his self-esteem. Carsten Bender confirms. “Overall, it was such a positive development that we were able to offer him the prospect of a job in our company months before the exam.”

Excellent in a Profession in Demand

The commitment has paid off for everyone involved: The examination board of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) has awarded the newly qualified electronics technician for devices and systems the grade “very good”. GTE is pleased to have found a highly motivated and optimally qualified employee.

An article about Marcel’s successful way is published on the website of the German Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Affairs of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia: https://www.mags.nrw/aktion100-elektroniker.
